Public Lecture on Policy and Political Development
SLAA is honored to host Mr. Lau Ming-wai, Vice Chairman of Bauhinia Foundation Research Centre, who will speak on how local think tanks conduct public policy research, on March 29, 2014 (Saturday). Our Dean, Hon. Mrs. Regina Ip, will also speak on the development of political parties and democracy on the same day. The event is open to public.

Mr. Lau Ming Wai
Mr Ming Wai Lau is the Vice Chairman of the Bauhinia Foundation Research Centre and Chairman of the Chinese Estates Holdings Limited. Mr Lau holds LLB, LLM, and PhD degrees from King’s College London and the London School of Economics, University of London. He is also a registered attorney in the State of New York and a Chartered Financial Analyst Charterholder.
Mr Lau is active in public affairs both in the Mainland and Hong Kong. In the Mainland, he is currently a member of the Sichuan Committee of Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference; an Honorary Trustee of Peking University and a Board Member of University of International Business and Economics. In Hong Kong, he is a Board Member of the Ocean Park Corporation, Council Member of City University of Hong Kong, co-opted member of Community Care Fund Task Force and Societal Engagement Task Force under Commission on Poverty, and a member of Financial Infrastructure Sub-Committee of the Exchange Fund Advisory Committee. Mr Lau is also one of the founding members of Hong Kong Spirit Ambassador Programme with vision to encourage people to preserve and to promote the Hong Kong Spirit.
Mrs. Regina Ip
Mrs. Regina Ip is a First Class Honor graduate in English of the University of Hong Kong in 1972. Her passion for learning drove her to study for three master degrees at different stages of her life: Master of Letters in Renaissance Poetry at the University of Glasgow, Sloan Management Program at Stanford University and more recently a Master of Art in East Asian Studies at Stanford University. She joined the Hong Kong Government in 1975, rising to the position of Secretary for Security and resigned in 2003. On her return from further studies in the US, she established a think tank, Savantas Policy Institute, in July 2006. She was elected as Member of the Fourth Legislative Council (LegCo) in September 2008 and was re-elected in 2012. She founded New People’s Party (NPP) in 2010, and was appointed as Non-Official Member of the Executive Council (ExCo) in 2012. She now divides her time between serving on ExCo and LegCo, running NPP and Savantas, conducting policy analysis, writing her columns, and undertaking various forms of non-paid public service
