Overview
During this three month program, we will be looking at (1) the social, political and cultural development of the “east” and the “west” through analyzing different texts and presentations in lectures and (2) Hong Kong‟s topical issues through presentations by different Hong Kong’s prominent social figures.
Language
The language of instruction will be Chinese (Cantonese) and English. Chinese (Mandarin) will also be used occasionally as the language of instruction.
Make-up Classes
There will be no make-up classes. If you miss a class, we recommend that you either e-mail us or ask your fellow classmates for lecture notes.
Requirements
In order to graduate, each student is required to attend at least 5 classes (excluding orientation
and graduation) and complete ONE of the following:
1) Submit 2 homework papers, each paper with 1,000 – 1,500 Chinese characters /
English words by 5pm on May 27th, 2010.
2) Take a 1 hour exam in our office anytime in between May 20-27, 2010.
Homework / exam will be based on course lectures and readings. We will occasionally post student’s article on our facebook fan page and/or our Sing Pao’s column, if we find the individual’s article to be well-thought out, well-composed and interesting to the audience. You are always welcomed to submit additional assignments for posting.
