The “Contemporary Chinese Diplomacy: From Humiliation to Strategic Positioning” Webinar organized by Savantas Liberal Arts Academy was held on 19 May 2022. Mr Alex Wong, Policy Director of Savantas Policy Institute, was the host of the webinar; Mr Kwok Yat Ming, Vice President of the Hong Kong Federation of Journalists, was the guest speaker of the webinar.

 

During Mr Wong’s presentation, he introduced the development of contemporary Chinese diplomacy, including the unequal treaties China had signed and the diplomatic achievements after the establishment of the People’s Republic of China. Mr Kwok then highlighted the historical importance of the year 1898, which had a far-reaching impact on China. He also explained the lessons that we can learn from Chinese diplomacy over the past century and the role China is playing in international affairs such as the Russian-Ukrainian Conflict.

 

During the discussion session, participants actively asked questions and shared their views on various issues such as territorial sovereignty and China-US relations with Mr. Wong and Mr. Kwok.
