Overview

This course will introduce students to the inheritance and development of Confucianism throughout China’s history.

Topics:

1. Political and social conditions of the Zhou Dynasty, the Spring and Autumn Period and the Warring States Period

2. The life and thoughts of Confucius

3. Mencius’ views on human nature

4. Xunzi’s thoughts and Legalism

5. Emperor Wu of Han and Dong Zhongshu

6. Views presented in Bai Hu Tong on Confucianism and monarchy

7. Confucianism in the Tang dynasty and Wujing Zhengyi

8. The relationship between Confucianism and the society in the Song dynasty

9. The debate between Zhu Xi and Lu Jiuyuan

10. Wang Yangming’s thoughts and the transformation of Confucianism in the Ming and Qing Dynasties

Tuition

The tuition fee is $800 for the entire program. There is also a $200 deposit, which will be returned to students with a 80%+ attendance rate at the end of the program. The total of $1000 is due a week after the student is accepted into the program or before the first class, whichever comes first, and will be used to reserve a place in the course.
